New Branch Project

LAP (Literacy Advocacy Program) is the branch project for this year. The Dysart Community Center located in El Mirage has been in operation for forty one years. It is funded entirely by donations and grants and staffed almost entirely by volunteers. The program is so popular and successful that there is a long waiting list of people needing help.

The Laubach Literacy Program which is used, teaches adults and teens the fundamentals of reading, writing and speaking the English language. The training provides the non-English speaking student the opportunity to develop language skills that will enhance their employment opportunities and ability to function more effectively with daily events.  We also will  work with students needing their GED.

The project is being co-chaired by Harriett Grau and Connie Johnson and they will be looking for tutors to volunteer to help with this.
