Save the Dates – Book Sale/Garage Sale

It is time to start saving items for our Book/Garage Sale.  The sale will be held February 29-March 2, 2012, at Connie Johnson’s house (14522 W Ravenswood Dr., Sun City West),  and will have new twist this year.  In addition to all of our wonderful “gently used” books, we will be including for our garage sale small items such as kitchen items, small decorative items, and jewelry. We cannot accept any clothing, furniture, or holiday decorations. Please keep saving these items, and  you can bring them to Connie’s beginning February 8th. As usual, all proceeds will go to our education grants.

After winning the vote in 1912, eight years before all women in the nation could vote, victorious Arizona suffragists ran for office and women have been represented in public office through the intervening years.  On Jan. 4, 1999, five women were sworn in by Supreme Court Justice, Sandra Day O'Conner, as the top executive officers in Arizona -- a first for any state in the nation.   Attend the meeting and learn more about Arizona history, statehood and how women won the vote as five AAUW members portray the lives of  Arizona suffragists.

Our AAUW Arizona Suffragist Re-enactors will also march in the SCW parade on Monday, Feb. 20th.   Attend the parade and support NWV-AAUW!
The  "AAUW Suffragist Re-enactors" will also present the program for other groups this spring.  What great visibility for AAUW!   Anyone who is interested in taking part in this project and could be available for the outside programs are asked to contact Joye Kohl.

Red Envelope campaign kickoff,  Pat Riffle, Chair, begins on February 16th

February Meeting

Date: February 16, 2012

Time: 9:00 am  Place: SCW Foundation (Webb Room)

Program:  “Arizona: Women’s Rights and Statehood”

             Presenters “AAUW Suffragists”

This program on "Women's Rights and Statehood" will follow the lives of  women important in the efforts to secure voting rights for the women of Arizona.  Although women in Arizona first entered politics for traditional reasons —to reform society and protect women and children— they understood that the work place discriminated against them.
